Make-Up vs. Mississippi Heat: What I Use for a Budge Proof Face

August in Mississippi is not for the faint of heart. The heat and humidity can be brutal, especially when you're trying to look **flawless** for a Saturday football game or evening date night. After much trial and error, I feel like I have put together the perfect combination for a beautiful, matte base that will stay in place throughout the heat of the day (and night). Keep in mind, this is not an every day foundation routine; this is for when you need your face to be basically bullet proof. Let's get into it.

Step 1: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel

It is so important to properly prep your face for make up! Never start your make up routine without washing and moisturizing first. For the best result, you need a clean and hydrated canvas. This water gel is one of my favorite moisturizers for summer time. It provides good hydration and plumps the skin but is also lightweight and will not clog your pores. I use this every morning and let it sink into the skin for about 10 minutes before I begin my make up routine.

Step 2: Two Faced Primed and Peachy Face Primer

I have combination skin, meaning I get oily in my t-zone while other areas of my face remain normal or dry. Because of this, I look for a primer that will keep my skin smooth and matte without over drying. This primer does exactly that. It provides a great base for my make up, helps control the oil, and gives my foundation more staying power. It also has a very slight cooling factor so it soothes the skin as you're applying it. I put one pump of this in my hands and pat it into my skin as the first step in my routine.

Step 3: Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

Technically this is a tool, not a product, but this isn't just any make up tool. It is essential in my make up routine. This beauty sponge is designed to be used damp so it will soak up excess product during the make up application - making it almost impossible to cake on too much make up. When it comes to creating a heat/sweat resistant make up look, thin layers of product are the key. I use the flat side of the sponge to pat in my foundation and the pointed side to blend concealer.

Step 4: Maybelline Super Stay Full Coverage Foundation

Maybelline makes some of my favorite foundations. I love the Fit Me line for everyday wear, but when I need something to stay put and look great all. day. long. I reach for this guy right here. I have been loving it all summer, and (like I said in the intro) the heat and humidity of summer time in Mississippi is the true test of a foundation. This stuff does not cake, transfer, or separate on me. The formula applies as a full matte, but feels and wears more like a satin matte. It provides a smooth, shine-free finish without sucking all the life and moisture out of my skin. I apply one layer of this with my Real Techniques beauty sponge; a little bit goes a long way!

Step 5: Tarte Shape Tape Concealer

Hands down the best full coverage concealer I have ever used. This is not an every day concealer for me, but when I'm going full glam and need my concealer to stay in place, this is my girl. It is super full coverage and will not crease or budge all day. If you are a full coverage queen and have not tried this concealer, run, don’t walk to your nearest Ulta and pick it up right now. I apply this to my under eye area and my t-zone to highlight the center of my face.

Step 6: Coty Airspun Translucent Powder

I like to set my foundation and concealer with a translucent powder. This technique locks in those liquid products and provides a smooth base for your powdered bronzer, blush, highlight etc. without being too heavy or cakey. With that in mind, I cannot say enough good things about this drugstore find. The Coty Airspun powder makes the skin look so smooth and does not have flashback when you take photos!

Step 7: Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray

I notice a significant difference in the wear of my make up when I use this setting spray versus when I don’t. Once I have completed my make up routine with bronzer, blush, eyes, brows, highlight - the whole enchilada - I drench my face in this stuff. It locks in the products and helps everything really mesh together for a flawless, stay-all-day finish. I also carry a travel sized bottle of this in my purse so if I'm really going to be out all day, I can use it to refresh my make up during touch ups!

There you have it, ladies. I hope this post was helpful if you struggle with finding products that stand up to long hours and hot days. Let me know if you have any tips or products you swear by for all day flawless make up!
