3 Healthy Summer Smoothie Recipes


Summertime is basically smoothie season. Whether it's your breakfast, post workout shake, or a yummy snack - everyone loves a good smoothie.

The best part about homemade smoothies is that you control exactly what goes in them. Store-bought smoothies, even ones that claim to be "healthy," often have a ton of sugar!

Here's a quick list of some healthy smoothies I have been loving lately. Best enjoyed in a swimsuit by the pool.

1. Best Green Smoothie (courtesy of our favorite little breakfast restaurant from Okinawa, Japan)
 - 1/2 cup frozen mango chunks
 - 1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks
 - 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
 - 1 tsp. fresh ginger
 - 1 tbsp. chia seeds
 - 1 large handful of spinach
 - 1 cup orange juice

2. Berry Banana Smoothie
 - 1/2 cup strawberries
 - 1/2 cup blueberries
 - 1/2 banana
 - 1 tbsp. honey
 - 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
 - 1 cup unsweetened almond milk

3. Coffee Breakfast Smoothie
 - 1/2 banana
 - 2 tbsp. almond butter
 - 1/4 cup oats
 - 1 tbsp. honey
 - 1/2 cup coffee
-  1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
 - 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (optional)

Healthy Tip
These are a few smoothie add-ins I love that won't affect the taste of your drink but will instantly up the nutritional value:
1. Flax seeds
2. Chia seeds
3. Spinach (seriously it has no taste, why not just put it in every smoothie?)
4. Unflavored collagen peptides (I love this brand)
5.Unflavored plant protein (I normally use whey protein, but if you want something that doesn't have a strong taste, go with plant protein instead - this is a good one!)
